Events with public gatherings were banned and public performances like busking, spoken word slams, gigs, and theater plays were prohibited.

Although a number of performers shifted to display their craft online, many artists were displaced and left out of work.

Now that the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions have been eased and the economy is starting to recover, public shows and live performances have been allowed.

This paved the way for the “The Final Countdown,” a major theater play production of the Sangguniang Kabataan of New Asinan, The Manila Times College of Subic-Creative Arts and Multimedia Program (TMTCS-CAMMP), and |
various artist volunteers in Olongapo City, which has not seen a large-scale theater production for a long time.

This is also the first time that several groups of artists from Olongapo City will come together, including Royal Dance Crew, Teatro Gat’Aitab, TanaJuan, Juanrook, and several others, for such a large-scale event.

“The Final Countdown” will be presented on Oct. 28, 2022, with the matinee at 2 p.m. and the gala at 7 p.m., at the SM City Olongapo Downtown.
“The Final Countdown” is set in a fictional post-apocalyptic Philippines, where a select few survivors compete to be chosen to enter the New Paradise. They will be judged based on their being’s purpose and relevance.

“This is a collaborative effort and the first project of the Creative Arts and Multimedia Program of The Manila Times College of Subic and the Arts Appreciation Month Celebration of the Sangguniang Kabataan of New Asinan. We are helped by other students and artists,” said director Elijah Mer de la Cruz, who is also the chairman of TMTCS-CAMMP.

De la Cruz said the TMTCS-CAMMP aims to create more projects like these and provide young people with learning opportunities and experiences in the field of creative arts and multimedia. Through TMTCS-CAMMP, they will continuously build and hone their skills to become future leaders in the creative sector.
